Children’s rights events begin at the 3rd Istanbul Children and Youth Art Biennial.
Children’s rights events are starting as part of the 3rd Istanbul Children and Youth Art Biennial, held under the theme “Small Is Good”. Supported by the Consulate General of Sweden, this strand will continue for the next eight months. The programme consists of stop-motion workshops in which short films on children’s rights will be made, talks, drama projects, music events and art workshops on contemporary art.
Biennial Director Gazi Selçuk said: “In this major organisation whose subject is the child, children’s rights naturally take on great importance. Issues that have recently been in the news – dozens of child murders, child labourers, missing children, abused children, child brides, juvenile offenders – have made it necessary to draw attention to this subject. While bringing to the fore the good, the beautiful, the aesthetic and the artistic that our children produce, we have also prepared a programme to draw attention to children who do not have the same opportunities and to raise awareness of children and their rights.”
