Child Protection Policy

Our principles on children’s safety, privacy and the use of their images.

Child Protection Policy

The Istanbul Children and Youth Art Biennial places the safety, privacy and rights of children and young people at the heart of all its work. This policy applies to the biennial team, its committees and volunteers, partner organisations and event facilitators.

Principles

  1. The child’s interests come first. Every decision within the biennial is made with the best interests of the child in mind.
  2. Permission for images. Photographs and video footage of children are not published without the permission of a parent or legal guardian. Wherever possible, images of the works, wide exhibition views and moments of making (e.g. hands at work) are preferred; close-ups and recognisable children’s faces are not used.
  3. Protection of personal data. Children’s personal data (name, contact details, address, etc.) is not published on the website. Children’s names are not requested on application forms.
  4. Makers’ names only with written permission. By default, works are shown with the name of the school or institution; children’s names are published only with the written consent of a parent or legal guardian.
  5. A safe environment at events. School visits take place under the responsibility of teachers, with at least one teacher accompanying every 20 students. In workshops, children work under adult supervision.
  6. Care and respect. The biennial team and volunteers communicate with children in a respectful, inclusive and non-discriminatory way.
